Warriors Punch Five Tickets to State
The Fairview Warriors will send five athletes to the OHSAA Track & Field State Championships next weekend in Columbus after an impressive performance at the Division III & IV Regional Meets at Austintown Fitch High School. Over four days of competition, the Warriors battled against many of the top athletes in Northeast Ohio and earned three state qualifying performances. State Qualifiers Bryce Ries became Fairview’s first state qualifier of the weekend on Friday evening. The senior ran 4:26.21 in the 1600 meters to finish fifth overall and secure his spot at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. On Saturday, sophomore Addy Gilbert continued her remarkable season by breaking the school record in the 400 meters. Gilbert raced to a fourth-place finish in 58.81, earning her first trip to the State Championships. The final event of the weekend produced another state qualifier for the Warriors. The girls 4x400 relay team of Gilbert, Maddie Eckert, Claire Dahler, and Molly Koczur delivered a season-best performance of 4:06.18 to place third overall and punch their ticket to Columbus. Boys Regional Performers The 4x800 relay team of Nate Stoessnner, Roman Ramsdell, Ryan Christ, and Bryce Ries finished sixth overall in 8:21.95, narrowly missing state qualification. The 4x100 relay team of Graham Foote, Elijah Cochran, Sean Finch, and LaMarcus Clark placed 14th with a time of 45.78. Christ finished 13th in the 400 meters after running 52.63. Ries also competed in the 800 meters on Friday, finishing 14th with a time of 2:11.75. Girls Regional Performers Freshman Gabby Smith finished on the podium in seventh place in the high jump after clearing a season best 4-10. In the long jump, Maddie Eckert finished 13th with her best jump of 15-03.25. The 4x800 relay team of Emily Dahler, Meghan. McDonald, Claire Dahler, and Molly Koczur finished sixth overall in 9:51.53, just outside of state qualification. The 4x200 relay team of Maura Gillis, Amelia Kay, Addy Gilbert, and Maddie Eckert placed 12th in 1:48.55. Emily Dahler finished 14th in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:49.29. Koczur narrowly missed qualifying for the State Championship in the 400 meters, placing sixth in 1:00.30. Claire Dahler finished ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:25.33. State Championship Schedule The OHSAA State Track & Field Championships will be held June 5th & 6th at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
