Fairview Boys Push Nine Through to Regionals

The Fairview boys track and field team will send nine athletes to next week’s OHSAA Regional Meet at Austintown Fitch High School after a strong showing Friday evening at the Division IV District Finals at Norwayne High School.

After the boys 4x800 relay team secured a regional berth Wednesday, the Warriors added qualifiers in five more events during Friday’s finals competition.

District Champion

Bryce Ries continued his outstanding postseason by adding another championship to his resume Friday evening. Already qualified for Regionals as part of the boys 4x800 relay team earlier in the week, the senior captured the District Championship in the 1600 meters with a winning time of 4:30.96.

Regional Qualifiers

Senior Kwaw Yankey earned a trip to the Regional Meet in the high jump after winning a jump off to secure fourth place. Yankey cleared 5-10 in just his second week of true competition.
The boys 4x100 relay team of Graham Foote, Elijah Cochran, Sean Finch, and LaMarcus Clark edged out Rittman at the finish line to place fourth and qualify for Regionals with a time of 46.05.
Ryan Christ punched his ticket to Austintown Fitch with a third-place finish in the 400 meters after running 52.64.
Bryce Ries added another regional qualification in the 800 meters, placing third overall in 1:59.67.

Top Performers

The boys 4x200 relay team of Clark, Cochran, Foote, and Finch narrowly missed regional qualification after finishing fifth in 1:34.91, just 0.01 seconds behind Akron Manchester.
Chris Malasi competed well in a loaded field in the 1600 meters, placing sixth overall with a time of 4:56.08.

Fairview's regional qualifiers will compete Wednesday, May 27 and Friday, May 29 at Austintown Fitch High School. Field events are scheduled to being at 4:30 p.m. each day with running events starting at 6:00 p.m.
