Warriors Take First Step Toward Regionals at Norwayne

The Fairview boys track and field team opened postseason competition Wednesday evening at the OHSAA Division IV District Meet at Norwayne High School, with several Warriors advancing to Friday’s finals and one relay team already securing a trip to next week’s Regional Meet at Austintown Fitch High School.

The top four finishers in each event at the District Meet qualify for the OHSAA Regional Championships.

Regional Qualifiers
The boys 4x800 relay team of Nate Stoessner, Roman Ramsdell, Ryan Christ, and Bryce Ries became Fairview’s first regional qualifiers of the postseason after earning a third-place finish in a time of 8:19.65.

Friday Finals Qualifiers
  • The 4x200 relay team of LaMarcus Clark, Graham Foote, Elijah Cochran, and Sean Finch advanced to Friday's finals after placing fourth in the prelims with a time of 1:35.92. The Warriors enter finals in strong position to compete for a regional qualifying spot.
  • Clark, Foote, Cochran and Finch also qualified for the finals of the 4x100 relay after running 46.46 to place sixth overall.
  • Ryan Christ qualified third overall in the prelims of the 400 meters with a time of 53.45 to advance to Friday's finals.
  • Bryce Ries (3rd, 2:06.97) and Nate Stoessner (15th, 2:16.10) advanced to the finals of the 800 meters.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Stoessner, Mike McGlynn, Christ and Roman Ramsdell earned the final qualifying spot for Friday's finals after finishing eighth in 3:41.79.
  • Due to a smaller number of entries in the 1600 meters, both Ries and Stoessner automatically advanced to Friday's finals in the event.

Top Performers
  • Cody Weise earned a seventh place finish in the discus with a throw of 126-10 while Colin Kay placed tenth with a mark of 116-06.
  • Sean Finch finished sixth in the long jump after recording a best leap of 18-07.
  • Gavin Muranko placed fifth in the pole vault after clearing 10-00.
  • Chris Malasi finished eigth in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:57.11.

Up Next
The Warriors will return to Norwayne High School on Friday for the finals of the Division IV District Meet. Field events are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. with running finals starting at 5:30 p.m.
