Fairview Claims 4x800 District Title, Loads Up for Saturday Finals

The Fairview girls track and field team opened postseason competition Thursday afternoon at the OHSAA Division III District Meet at Bay High School with several strong performances, including three regional qualifiers and multiple athletes advancing to Saturday’s finals.

The top four finishers in each event at the District Meet qualify for next week’s OHSAA Regional Championships at Austintown Fitch High School.

Regional Qualifiers
The girls 4x800 relay team of Claire Dahler, Emily Dahler, Meghan McDonald, and Molly Koczur claimed a District Championship with a winning time of 10:05.87. The performance also moved the group into ninth place all-time in Fairview history. Emily Dahler earned a second trip to the Regional Meet after placing runner-up in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:15.11. Freshman Gabby Smith also punched her ticket to Austintown Fitch with a third-place finish in the high jump after clearing 4-08.

Saturday Finals Qualifiers
  • Autumn Cuscire qualified fourth overall for Saturday's finals in the 100 hurdles after running 17.55. Maddy Sterling also advanced to the finals with a seventh-place qualifying time of 19.29.
  • The 4x100 relay team of Sterling, Maura Gillis, Kaila Orengo, and Lola Scott advanced to Saturday's finals after finishing eighth in 54.08.
  • Fairview will have two competitors in the finals of the 400 meters after Addison Gilbert qualified third in 1:01.06 and Molly Koczur advanced fourth in 1:02.71.
  • Amelia Kay ran a personal-best time of 50.70 in the 300 hurdles to finish seventh and qualify for Saturday's finals.
  • Gillis also advanced to the finals of the 200 meters after placing eighth overall in the prelims with a time of 28.06.
  • With fewer than required entries to run prelims, Fairview will also qualify for the finals in the following events: 4x200 relay, 1600 meters, 800 meters, 4x400 relay

Top Performers
  • Phoebe Tidmore narrowly missed regional qualification in the high jump, finishing fifth after clearing 4-08.

Up Next
The Warriors will return to Bay High School on Saturday for the finals of the Division III District Meet. Field events are scheduled to begin at noon with running finals starting at 1:30 p.m.
