Fairview Battles to Eighth at Wasko Memorial Invitational

The Fairview wrestling team placed eighth overall Saturday at the Jacob Wasko Memorial Invitational at Columbia High School, highlighted by a championship performance from senior Henry McAleer. Competing in the 190-pound weight class, McAleer earned the title with a hard-fought 4-3 decision over Huron’s Blake Reyes, leading the Scarlet and Gray against a competitive field.
Fairview also received strong contributions from its underclassmen throughout the day. Freshman Landon Strandahl finished fourth at 106 pounds, continuing to gain valuable tournament experience. At 113, fellow freshman Brendan Canfield battled his way to a third-place finish, securing the spot with an 8-5 decision over Colin Coughlin of Elyria Catholic. Freshman Rusty Bumgardner added another podium finish for the Warriors, earning third place with a 4-1 overtime victory against Gavin Giles from Benedictine.
